Alder Hey Children’s Charity Announced as Charity of the Year 2017

Posted on 22 March 2017 in All news

Contact Group is delighted to announce that our chosen charity for support in 2017 is Alder Hey Children’s Charity.

The hospital which has recently been rebuilt, was previously an old Victorian building, serving young children from the whole of the North West. However, thanks to the support of the charity, the new ‘Alder Hey In the Park’ hospital now offers life-saving treatment to children from all over the world.

Alder Hey is only a 20 minute drive from our Widnes office, and is a world leader in healthcare and research. There is a helipad to bring in children from all over the UK who need pioneering treatment. A new unit within the hospital now provides specialised training for the world’s top paediatric specialists, and ground-breaking Virtual Reality machines are available to assist surgeons when operating on small organs.

The charity has recently enabled the trust to put top chefs on each ward, allowing children to eat whatever and whenever they want – whereas previously, they were just offered mass produced canteen food at specific times of the day.

Supporting such a high profile charity will help us to help the children we are supporting within our day to day work at Contact Group.  By involving the schools and educating them on the wonderful work of Alder Hey, we aim to widen the awareness and help it grow from strength to strength.

Alder Hey is a cause very close to the heart of a number of employees at Contact Group. Lynda Corbett, Director of the company has experienced first-hand, the immense value of the hospital as her grandson Cameron has had two life-saving open heart operations at Alder Hey.  Lynda says “My own family, as countless others, are so grateful to Alder Hey for the incredible work they do to treat and save the lives of many children. It is a privilege and pleasure to support this amazing charity which will enable them to continue their life-changing work.”

Contact Group staff will be getting involved in a range of wild and wacky activities throughout the year to raise funds for the charity, so watch this space for more details!
