The Virtual Head Teachers’ National Conference

Lisa, Mark and Martyn from our LAC Team attended the Virtual Head Teachers’ Conference in Manchester on January 15th 2015 to show our Looked After Call product to the attendees.

Looked After Call monitors looked after children’s attendance and assessment progress, both in and out of area.
Using our calling team and automatic data collection, Looked After Call gathers data on children looked after from schools/establishments in and out of area. This data can be viewed online in real time by the Virtual School and can be integrated to show attendance, personal details, assessment SEN status, behaviour, school history and exclusions.

The annual conference is the main national training and development event and many Virtual School Heads attend.
The Programme aims were:
•To celebrate what has already been achieved since this role became statutory and to highlight key priorities for the coming year and beyond.
•To have the opportunity in workshops and throughout the full day to share practice, ideas and experience with colleagues from other local authorities.
•To hear from care experienced young people about what has helped them to achieve and how the support they received could have been improved.
•To hear from Ofsted on their experience of the Local Authority Single Inspection and school inspections with a focus on the education of Looked After Children.
•To hear from Minister Edward Timpson and Dr Maggie Atkinson, Children’s Commissioner – The Virtual School Head – achievements so far and key priorities.

The Conference was well attended by Virtual Heads and assistants from most Local Authorities and many of them spent time on the stands when the conference was not in session. Contact Group had an excellent position in the exhibition hall and welcomed many people onto the stand to discuss Looked After Call. The stand looked smart and simple and the rolling video attracted a lot of attention. Those visiting the stand, and just passing were offered Looked After Call branded cotton shopper bags containing Contact Group merchandising, to hold conference papers etc.

Overall we spoke to approximately 30 authorities during the day and hopefully many follow up appointments will be booked.
